SWNGS library contains anything and everything published on McCook and Red Willow County which includes original District Court Books, original Marriage applications and license, Index books for marriages, burials, probates and our own on-going project of Newspaper Abstract books from 1882 to present containing birth announcements, marriage write-ups, anniversaries, obituaries, family reunions, etc.  McCook Polk City Directories, various census, including rural school census, many school yearbooks, various local church histories, Plat map books from 1905, 1923, 1958, 1979 and county directories 1965-1972, along with local military bio books and various booklets published on individual towns in Red Willow County.

SWNGS also concentrates heavily on the entire Southwest Nebraska community providing extensive research material for the additional counties of Furnas, Hitchcock, Hayes, Chase, Dundy and Frontier.  All this plus some information on almost every other Nebraska county is available.

Our Surname book section contains many “old” Red Willow County names but also an “A to Z” allotment of various surname books published throughout the U.S. approximately 150+ books to date.

SWNGS has a good selection of books, over 400+, coming from and covering the entire United States.  Add to that our world-wide collection, approaching 100+, covering German, Irish, English, etc.  Our number of books is so vast that when located on the McCook Community College campus we helped their Von Riesen Library to become accredited.

Add to this books on subjects like, Pilgrims, Colonials, Churches, Census, Daughters of the American Revolution, History, Immigration, New England, Resources, War and our How to section which teaches genealogy views both simplified for elementary age children to adult beginners and even experienced researchers.

With our book count approaching the 2,000 + mark, it is easy to see why our SWNGS library is referred to as “the best little library between Lincoln and Denver”.
